Guy Kawasaki Shares the Secret of Enchantment2011.04.18

I had the privilege of interviewing Guy Kawasaki on video about his new book Enchantment, the Art of Changing Hearts, Minds, and Actions.

A New York Times Bestseller, Enchantment is endorsed by Founder of the Virgin Group Sir Richard Branson, Apple Co-Founder Steve Wozniak, author of Influence Robert B. Cialdini, Social Media Expert Michael Stelzner, and a host of others who have certainly enchanted the world with their own innovative products and services.

A remarkable book by a remarkable man, whose smile is disarming and whose insights are profound and rich in metaphor, yet you feel you are talking with an old friend.

Guy’s “Official BIO” reads as follows:

Guy Kawasaki is the co-founder of Alltop.com, an “online magazine rack” of popular topics on the web, and a founding partner at Garage Technology Adventures. Previously, he was the chief evangelist of Apple. Kawasaki is the author of ten books including Enchantment, Reality Check, The Art of the Start, Rules for Revolutionaries, How to Drive Your Competition Crazy, Selling the Dream, and The Macintosh Way. Kawasaki has a BA from Stanford University and an MBA from UCLA as well as an honorary doctorate from Babson College.

But the real fascination I found in speaking with him is that this Guy is on to something BIG. He cuts through the nonsense of convention, yet his arguments require little persuasion because they are convincing in their own right. Or perhaps rather they just speak directly to your own intuition and experience. But they also generate excitement, enthusiasm, and Enchantment.

You feel that the first thing you want to do is master how to apply these principles to your own personal and professional life.

The Chapter titles themselves make the promise, and the book delivers on it.

How to Achieve Likability. It’s all in your smile, and this is the one thing that influences, but cannot fool all of the people, all of the time. Let’s face it, we do business with, and work hard for the people we like.

How to Achieve Trustworthiness. Trust others first, and you will win over hearts and minds from the start. Disclose your interests, and you will shine compared to those who conceal them.

How to Overcome Resistance. The recipe isn’t complicated. Provide social proof and show people your magic. If you don’t have magic, you need to read this book.

How to Enchant Your Boss. Make your boss look good. Drop everything and do what your boss asks. Under-promise, over-deliver. Prototype your work. And don’t you ever, ever work for a boss who don’t admire and respect. For the sake of your own self-respect, align yourself with people who make you proud.

And those are only a few of the chapters in this book. The jewels of wisdom fairly drip.

Michael Gartenberg, Research Director at Gartner calls Enchantment, “The best overall treatise on interpersonal relationships since Dale Carnegie wrote How to Win Friends and Influence People.”

Talking with Guy Kawasaki, it is easy to see why.

Guy Kawasaki’s infographic for Enchantment gives you a graphical view of the contents. The use of well-designed infographics instructs the eye in an appealing manner, and gives you a huge advantage in a crowded world of words. You can see this infographic, and find out more about Enchantment on the website at http://www.guykawasaki.com/enchantment

Join me and invite Guy Kawasaki into your home, and into your heart. Watch my video interview with Guy Kawasaki on http://ipadcreatorsclub.com/guy-kawasaki/, and you will see what I mean. I launched the iPad Creators Club for a special purpose, to help people cut through the clutter and use this marvelous tool to unleash your greatness on the world. Your world, our world. Guy Kawasaki did this interview for the iPad Creators Club, and he said in the interview that the iPad is even more revolutionary than the Macintosh. Think about that! It can change your world. Join us and we will show you how.

So I’ll say no more. Listen to the interview, and get a copy of his book. Some of it is bound to rub off.

Thank you Guy, for a fantastically fun interview! We hope to get you to Japan someday soon.
