In this interview, we asked about the new goals of Modis Staffing Division, which has more than 8000 clients and has branches in 20 countries worldwide.

We have a job-seeker with us who was recently hired as an engineer. We asked what factors brought him to Japan and what are his goals for the future.

Profile
Kan Syou,
from Dalian, China. After graduating from university, he did work related to artificial intelligence before studying abroad in Japan for graduate school. He plans to do AI-related work at Adecco.
Chance:Strong Back-up for Desired Jobs

―Before entering Adecco, what were you doing? I studied finance at a university in China, and after gaining work experience, I decided to study abroad at a Japanese graduate school to learn about financial engineering. I felt that IT technology will become more necessary in the financial industry in the future, so I studied programming on my own. In my previous job, I was involved in projects related to AI, but I want to try my hand at AI work in Japan as well.

―What made you decide to join Adecco? Adecco has many clients with AI-related projects, so I felt I would be able to do the type of job I hoped to do. Also, when I interviewed with the Adecco manager, their feeling of support toward my desire to improve my skills really came across. We also talked about how even for projects that I’m not yet skilled enough to take part in, I can try working on them in the future after I’ve gained more skills, so I felt really motivated. A job-search agent introduced Adecco to me, and that agent was also someone I could truly rely on, so I wanted to value not just the terms of the job, but also these connections, so I decided to join the company.

Lifestyle:Expanding a Career Plan While Living in Japan

―How did you feel when you first arrived in Japan? At first, I couldn’t speak Japanese fluently, so it was difficult to communicate. Further, I got a job in China only to then study abroad in Japan at age 27, so while my desire to learn was very strong, I also felt a bit desperate to build my career quickly. I’m relieved now that I was able to enter Adecco.

―Compared to where you’re from, how is living in Japan? I’m living in Kanagawa Prefecture now, and I’m satisfied with life there, but my home, Dalian, is also a really great place, and I often feel nostalgic for home. Dalian is very deeply connected to Japan, with many Japanese businesses and Japanese residents there. I’m considering gaining experiences in Japan and then returning to Dalian to work for a Japanese business there as one of my possible options.

Future:Aiming to Making Results Quickly by Utilizing Past Experience

―What is your goal at your assignment location? I want to make good results as soon as possible. I love studying, and I’ve studied a wide variety of subjects, from finance, to programming, to AI. I want to connect all of my knowledge and experience, and contribute to the projects I work on and to the company.

―What are your thoughts on your future career plan? I have a lot of ideas in my head, like, “it’d be interesting to develop a phone robot at a finance company,” or, “I want to make an ideal product.” The IT industry is changing rapidly, so I’d like to build up my career flexibly.
