In Japan, I was active in the late 80's and from 2007 to 2010 through the Singapore and South Korea offices. With Japan's economic and political importance in the Asian region and around the world and the further strengthening of Japan-Germany relations, in 2010 the Association Headquarters decided to open a new office in Tokyo. Then, in October 2011, the Japan Office was opened, and the Association's activities in Japan began in earnest. The Japan Office is responsible not only for programs in Japan, but also for the Asian Regional Economic Policy Program (SOPAS), which plays an important role in the activities of the Association as a whole.

The Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung hosted the Social Economic Policies Asia (SOPAS), which brought together universities, research institutes and entrepreneurs from South Korea, Taiwan, India, Singapore and Vietnam in Tokyo. The workshop hosted by SOPAS discussed various topics such as promotion of women's leadership, free trade agreements, future working styles, and the impact of these developments on their respective economies and societies. The SOPAS Workshop laid the association for the program over the next three years while continuing its network throughout Asia.
