This position can be based in Yokohama or Nagoya. Chronos Consulting's client is an American Fortune 200 global leader in designing, manufacturing and marketing highly engineered components, equipment and consumable systems. They are well established and celebrating 100 years in business. The Automotive group in Japan has been in operation for 12 years and currently has a manufacturing site (Nagoya) and sales office based in Yokohama. Due to the growth potential and new product offerings of this group of 25 employees, we are seeking a General Manager to lead the strategic growth and development of this Automotive team in the Japanese marketplace. The Role: The new General Manager will report to a Divisional President based in the USA and be responsible for: Developing and implementing a sound growth strategy, working closely with global senior leadership in Asia, Europe and America to leverage local market knowledge and focus on growing new products development. Understanding the market niche and growth opportunities for the current Japanese operations with a strong overview of automotive market in order to align the strategic priorities. Managing and developing the local team of 20+ Engineers and Sales / Operations employees in the execution of strategy and hiring as the business grows. Working closely with product, operations and commercial teams to develop new product introduction strategy in terms of sourcing and manufacturing within Japan to attain the growth objectives. Establishing strategic relationships with major automotive manufacturers and government agencies in Japan. Assuming a local leadership role in helping identify acquisition opportunities for continued growth as well as organic growth. The Requirements: Degree in Engineering or Business and international experience is required (MBA a plus) 10 + years experience in multinational and/or Japanese organizations, coupled with 5+ years in a management role to include Profit & Loss (P&L) Established business relationships with both Japanese and international automotive manufactures (OEM) Knowledge in plastics, automotive powertrain, engine cooling systems and/or fuel systems will be an advantage. Developed negotiation skills with the ability to propose value propositions and business cases. Goal oriented and results driven in managing a business, with the ability to take initiative in an entrepreneurial environment and make decisions Proven track record in assessing, hiring, coaching and developing teams to position company for growth Strong interpersonal and communication skills and ability to build relationships within the industry Fluent Japanese & English
