The predecessor of Keysight Technologies was Hewlett-Packard Company (HP), a well-known worldwide computer manufacturer. But its origins date back to Dave Packard and Bill Hewlett, who developed an "instrument" to test audio equipment in their Palo Alto garage.

HP's business field has a history of evolving measurement technology in line with the cutting-edge technology of each era. Computers were also born out of necessity in the process of realizing more precise and complex measurements. In addition to HP, which provides computer-based solutions to a wide variety of fields, the measurement division became independent in November 1999 to specialize in cutting-edge technology, and became Agilent Technologies.
