The Assistant Legal Counsel will primarily negotiate and interpret inbound and outbound font license agreements, supporting our Japan and global sales and foundry teams. Additionally, you will support enforcement files (investigation of infringement, factual and legal evaluation, preservation and submission of evidence), sales activities and communications to potential infringers, and coordinate further legal enforcement as necessary.

Job Description

- Provide legal support to the company's sales team by drafting, negotiating and interpreting contracts and license agreements in Japanese and English in coordination with legal, financial and sales support teams worldwide.

- Communicate with sales, sales operations, legal, financial and other business departments on unresolved topics and their further handling.

- Develop and oversee inquiries regarding rights to use the company's intellectual property, notice and takedown procedures, interactions with customers' internal and external legal counsel, and, with the assistance of intellectual property counsel, develop and/or oversee other communications regarding enforcement activities.

- Monitor approval procedures to ensure compliance with Monotype's contract handling policies.

This role will require attendance at our offices and/or attendance at in-person meetings with other employees up to three days per week.

Requirements		 【What we are looking for】

- Law degree or equivalent work experience/certification.

- 3 years experience in a law firm or corporate legal department, preferably in a software-related company.

- Knowledge of intellectual property law and international contract/licensing law, with emphasis on copyright and trademark.

- Demonstrable strong negotiation and problem-solving skills without a zero-sum mindset.

- Flexibility to take on different roles depending on current business needs

- Understanding of economics and entrepreneurship, with the ability and willingness to quickly adapt to new complex problems independently

- Team player with excellent communication and negotiation skills

- Excellent English (written and verbal) required.
