The position involves initiating and writing real-time news coverage and both daily and weekly analyses in English for online and print audiences. Coverage includes attending events, interviewing newsmakers and subject-matter experts, data-mining, spotting trends and writing features, and involves extensive collaboration with colleagues on other teams and in other regions. The news reporter is expected to take the initiative in suggesting areas of coverage and where appropriate provide mentoring to news reporters.
Candidates should possess good English language, writing and numerical skills, plus basic computing skills. Familiarity with global commodity markets would be a strong advantage.
・Provide real-time, breaking news coverage for an online news service.
・Develop own coverage ideas, propose areas of coverage or specific lines of news inquiry
・Write in-depth analysis and feature stories for daily and weekly publications and blog postings.
・Produce multiple stories on any given day, adding all needed context and background.
・Synthesize complex market and industry information quickly.
・Develop and maintain rapport with key contacts, and liaise regularly with industry stakeholders.
・Develop new contacts to aid with newsgathering and general market intelligence.
・Cover conferences and events (some travel required).
・Adhere to deadlines.

・ Japanese: Native level
・ English: Business level or above (fluent is desirable)
・ PC skills: Word / Excel / PowerPoint required
・ Experience in analyzing economic data and creating reports, papers or publications
