What is “IT Solution”? A Growing Need in Japan

EIRE Systems
A trusted professional IT services provider “EIRE Systems K.K.”
EIRE Systems is a leading independent provider of professional IT services to many multinational companies. It was established in 1996 by two IT consultants, Matthew Connolly and Paul Timmons. We interviewed their recruiting manager, Dan Cooper from Australia, who has been at EIRE Systems for 11 years.
An Introduction:IT Solutions and Support

We are an IT company providing IT solutions and support services to many clients, either multinationals operating in Tokyo, or Japanese companies with significant overseas operations. The biggest sectors we cover are financial, pharmaceuticals, technology, and retail/hospitality.

At EIRE Systems, there are essentially two major types of services: operations-based and project-based. Our operations-based services include support for a range of IT-related solutions such as Helpdesks, Systems/Network Administration, Applications, Support, Data Center Operations etc. Project-based services include designing and building the IT aspects in data centers, offices or installing new computer systems.

Our company is diverse with a majority of our engineers in their 20s, 30s and early 40s. We also have senior consultants and project managers, who are in their 40s and 50s. The male to female ratio of our company’s employees is 7:3. The IT industry is still a male dominated industry but we would really like to increase the number of female engineers.

We recruit year-round and are always on the lookout for talented, bilingual IT engineers.

New Career:Many opportunities for English/Japanese bilingual IT engineers

Our engineers need to have both good communication skills and IT technical knowledge. They don’t have to be a Japanese national, but professional level Japanese language skills are very important for the majority of our most immediate hiring needs. We look for candidates who also demonstrate a genuine interest in learning and continuously developing their IT knowledge.

I’ve interviewed many candidates and a few that really stood out to me were Japanese engineers who’ve studied IT, are great communicators, and have studied or worked abroad in countries such as the UK, US, Australia, New Zealand or Canada, and so their English skills were great. Our engineers often need to be able to communicate with our clients’ global offices, therefore people with a global mind-set can use these experiences in a new career at EIRE Systems.

Professional Growth:Learning new IT skills

Our engineers support many different companies, each with different IT and business needs and different technical and professional challenges. Technology is always changing and while it gives our employees the opportunity to experience new technology, they must also do a lot of research, in order to adapt well and provide our clients with solutions.

Along with the changes in technology, there is a growing importance being put on security. In order to help our clients to protect their business from IT security threats, our engineers must continue to learn and keep their knowledge up-to-date.

Fun:Regular Company events

It’s important for us to hold regular events and fun outings to allow our employees who work at many different locations around Tokyo to meet and share their experience with other EIRE people who they don’t normally see day-to-day.

We have four major events each year and some smaller ones at different times of the year, including Ski Trips, Go-Carting, and seasonal parties such as Hanami and Summer Barbeques. The biggest event is our annual Christmas Party, which is usually hosted at a restaurant and most of our employees usually attend. Our employees’ families are welcome to join some of these events.
