Testing has a purpose. However, seeking to measure something in line with the intended purpose is not a simple matter.
Tests with many goals are possible. Such goals may include measuring the achievement level of a person’s ability, measuring the progress of their earning, finding their relative position in a group of examinees, or analyzing the trends in a group of examinees. If the test isn’t designed correctly according to the purpose, it won’t be possible to perform an accurate assessment.
At JIEM, we think carefully about how to measure human ability correctly; researching, developing, and applying testing techniques to achieve that objective.
JIEM carries out research and development concerning proper educational measurement technology (testing). As a result of this ongoing research and development, our business continues to expand globally.
As an example, CASEC (Computerized Assessment System for English Communication), our company’s leading on-line testing product, can be taken in five languages (Japanese, English, Chinese, Vietnamese, and Thai). The CASEC test has been widely used, and has been taken by more than one million people worldwide.
Since our Research and Development department, and our projects are largely focused on developing products and services related to English learning and education, our professional staff, many of whom have strong backgrounds in Linguistics and TESOL, are committed to creating quality products. This position not only requires English proficiency, but, through exchanges of ideas and opinions based on the latest learning theory, gives the opportunity to develop tests and learning materials which is very exciting and leads to a great sense of accomplishment.
