All About American Apparel
Unlike any other fashion retailers that choose to subcontract their manufacturing unit in developing countries, all American Apparel garments are designed and manufactured in our factory in Downtown Los Angeles. We believe that by concentrating our entire manufacturing and distribution operation in one location, not only can we increase efficiency; we are as well being held accountable and responsible for our actions. That is because our name is on the side of the building. We do our own knitting, dyeing, cutting and sewing in-house which means we can ensure adherence with US environmental regulations with regards the waste disposal and pollutions.
American Apparel factory workers make $12 to $14 per hour on average. It is the highest pay worldwide for the manufacturing of apparel basics, and significantly more than California's minimum wage. For us, higher pay means heightened efficiency, a better and more consistent quality of work, stronger employee morale, and ultimately, retention rates of skilled operators.
We don't have to do things this way, we just believe it’s the right way.
American Apparel Japan offers a diverse, multi-cultural working environment. Our employees come from over 8 countries around the world. English is used as the main language within the office. It is a great opportunity for those who wish to make good use of their language skills and enjoying working in a young and fun environment with foreigners.
