The Nikkei Asian Review, Nikkei's English-language news outlet, is seeking an energetic and internationally minded senior graphic designer to join our rapidly expanding and evolving newsroom.
In this role, you will play a key part in creating innovative layouts and infographics across print and digital platforms using
■Adobe Creative Suites
■data-visualization tools (QGIS, D3 coding and other areas)
■Working closely with the editorial and design team to achieve a shared goal while maintaining brand consistency
■Developing and executing concepts for magazine covers
■Identifying, proposing and executing design ideas that will enhance the NAR experience and expand readership
■Translating raw data into creative, easy-to-understand visuals that work across web, mobile, SNS and print
■Assisting with commissioning and directing works from outside illustrators
You will report to the editor-in-chief. You will work under the direction of the design editor and the design manager, and work closely with other members of the editorial staff as well as junior designers to ensure the accurate and timely delivery of print and digital content.

The Nikkei Asian Review offers comprehensive reports from across the region by website, a weekly print edition and mobile app. In April 2018, it was honored with a bronze prize in the Asian Media Awards by the World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers, or WAN-IFRA, for its coverage of foreign students and undocumented immigrants in the U.S. under President Donald Trump.

■Bachelor's degree or equivalent in design-related field
■Minimum of 5-years of design experience (in a newsroom environment preferred, but not essential)
■Must have expert knowledge of Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign; experience working with mapping software a plus (Google Earth Studio, QGIS)
■Experience designing editorial content in English and/or designing annual reports
■Portfolio that displays a strong ability: typography, illustration and concept development
■A team player with a professional attitude
■Ability to articulate design concepts clearly, effectively and professionally to non-designers (desk editors, writers, etc.), and provide honest feedback in a constructive manner
■Ability to create engaging, original and accurate graphics that are visually consistent with the brand image, while working under the tight deadline
