The primary scope of the responsibility includes
1) 2 SAN, Virtual Hosts(VMware), 20+ servers mostly virtual, and network equipments located in Tokyo, Saitama computer room, Osaka Colocation site, and sales offices
2) Fixed telephony including PBX, mobile device including feature phone, tablet device
3) Corresponding helpdesk support covering all the above aspect.
As its nature, this position needs to collaborate global IT infrastructure closely, because considerable portion of the above scope is managed and supported by global counterpart.
Within the above area, the person in charge is supposed to ensure not only the day-to-day operation but also creating and updating the server and storage portfolio, so that the he/she is ready for the discussion of budgeting with his/her superior, who coordinates the appropriate IT investment and expense accordingly.
As a member of global IT server team, this position should actively collaborate with the other team members for the global project implementation or its local deployment.
Along with the above role, he/she is responsible for the information security measure related to all the local IT infrastructure, and DRP in case of emergency.
Though this position doesn’t has any responsibility for local/global service desk, it has closely to work closely enough to provide the end users with the excellent service.
1. Take a bridging role for IT infrastructure installation/change
a) As a bridging engineer between global IT and Japan business, lead sufficient communication between them for any IT infrastructure installed locally.
b) Listen to customer’s voice carefully, and communicate it to the global IT counterpart to initiate the improvement.
2. Sustain the secure and reliable IT infrastructure (all IT equipments in Japan)
a) Continuously monitor the capacity, performance and log for each server
b) Establish the collaboration with NOC for off-hours monitoring
c) Keep the operational documentation updated.
d) Minimize the adverse impact of incidents and problems on the business that are caused by errors of the servers with the appropriate Incident & Problem management.
e) Deploy the software by Altirs with timely manner
f) Protect laptops and external Hard Disk or memory media by encryption to prevent any data leakage.
3. Assure the backup process is precisely configured and the backup is taken everyday
a) Make sure that the data backup is taken successfully. If any trouble found, take any necessary measure.
b) Make sure that the daily backup tapes are stored off-site at the same day of the back-up.
c) According to the volume of the backup data, fine tuning of the backup schedule.
d) Run periodical tests for data restoration from the backup tapes.
4. Protect the users from any cyber threat from the lack of the server security
a) Keep all servers in Japan updated with security patches.
b) Make any suggestion of the good file share management method to the end users.
5. Conduct any changes to the servers requesteda) According to the change request from end users, modify the access right to the shared folders and files.
b) Restore data from backup tape, when necessary.
c) When new servers are installed, install OS and configure SAN and FC switch.
d) Collaborate with global server team and NOC for the server standardization activities.
e) Plan and supervise the successful rollout of software and hardware.
f) Communicate with end users and the vendors effectively throughout the changes.
6. Keep server inventory updated
a) Keep up to date server inventory with H/W and S/W information.
7. Capacity planning
a) Continuously monitor the disk capacity of servers as well as SAN and record them.
b) Propose any capacity enhancement to IT manager proactively with the persuasive data and the appropriate budget.
c) Keep and update the mid-term server portfolio and make proposal of the investment & expense
to the local IT manager.
8. DR preparation
a) Keep SOPs and WINS updated for servers and Netapp
b) Conduct the periodical DRP drill collaborating with IT colleague.
9. Keep high quality server environment
a) Conduct infrastructural validation for the regulated systems collaborating with the IT colleague in charge of CSV.
b) To realize more effective and reliable server infrastructure, catch up with the new server technology and its trend to seek the possibility of adaptation for the current environment.
・Bi-lingual, Japanese native or quivalent, excellent for read/write/speak English
・More than 5 years experience of IT applications system development and operational support.
・Need to have the experience of leading/participation in mid or large system implementation project from project planning, collecting business requirements to its completion.
・Experience in the pharmaceutical industry is preferred
・Project management skills (project planning, status reporting, status tracking)
