Volunteering is an excellent way to:
• Give to your community; you can help others in all sorts of ways at TELL.
• Meet new people; volunteers are some of the most interesting, nicest, and surprisingly diverse people you'll ever meet.
• Learn new skills and challenge yourself (Didn't think you could ever be a counselor/ fundraiser/ event coordinator? Think again!)
• Feel good about the world. (Renew your hope in humanity, and contribute to others - it all feels good)
• Have fun! (Venefits of being a volunteer - making friends, attending events, and more!)
Q1: Why volunteer with TELL?
Q2: What can I do at TELL?
There are a variety of ways to volunteer at TELL:
• As a phone counselor (more details on that below)
• At fundraising events (we have a runathon and an auction every year)
• As a fundraiser (as a non-profit organization, this is really important...)
• With technical stuff (are you good with computers? we can use you!)
• With administrative stuff (visit our website and see all of the help we need!)
Q3: So, what does it take to become a volunteer phone counselor?
• First, you have to be fluent in English - although this doesn't mean that your first language must be English.
• You must be over 21.
• You need to complete our training programme - it is about 12 weeks long, and is held twice per year. In the Spring we do a daytime session, and in the Fall we hold evening sessions.
• You DO NOT need any prior counseling experience - our training is very thorough.
• You will need to complete an application form, which you can get by sending us an email. We will also send you more information at that time.
Q4: What if I am already a trained counselor?
• TELL also has paid opportunities for trained face-to-face counselors, in a variety of languages.
• If you hold a master's degree or higher in a counseling-related field, and would like more information on opportunities for paid work, please contact us regarding TELL Community Counseling Service.
