| Job Description | Our client, an international E-commerce company is seeking a Search Engineer for their Tokyo office. The Search Engineer will be responsible to design, develop, troubleshoot, debug, deploy, maintain, document, and deliver large-scale, highly-distributed information retrieval solutions using Java, Object Oriented Design (OOD) patterns, multi-threaded programming techniques, and networking and messaging technologies on a Linux platform. • Create robust, scalable, and supportable solutions that work well within the overall system architecture • Participate in and significantly influence the full development cycle, end-to-end, from design, implementation, documentation, or maintenance, working within defined parameters • Evaluate and make decisions around the use of new or existing software products and tools for major projects • Participate in the delivery of an entire piece of a system or application |

| Qualifications | The successful candidate will have 5 years of software engineering and product delivery experience, a strong background in algorithms and high performance distributed systems, and familiarity with character encoding issues (Unicode, UTF-8, S-JIS). Fluent Japanese and English is also required for this role. • This position requires a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field plus two years of experience in job offered or the related occupation of Software Developer, Software Engineer, or a related occupation • Successful candidates will have 5 years of software engineering and product delivery experience, with strong background in algorithms and high performance distributed systems • Candidates must have a proven ability to design reliable, maintainable code in C/C++ and Perl, and possess a firm understanding of UNIX, Web technologies, and application programming • Familiarity with character encoding issues (Unicode, UTF-8, S-JIS) is required • Experience in search software is a plus • Experience with internationalization software, front-end processing, and/or input tokenizers is a plus |
